Make a shortlist around your practice
- Learning the interface: check how long you can keep the account, whether the balance can be reset, and where the broker explains order entry.
- Testing an existing workflow: confirm the account currency, available symbols, contract sizes and order types. A similar symbol name is not proof of identical settings.
- Running an Expert Advisor: confirm terminal and account permissions before testing. An Expert Advisor is an MQL4 program running in the terminal; it does not establish a public broker web API. MetaQuotes Expert Advisor documentation.
- Comparing firms: use the same practice scenario and record the conditions. Demo fills cannot establish live liquidity, costs or execution quality.

Connect to the correct demo server
- Follow the official entry route for your selected entity and request MT4 specifically. A broker's web-platform login may be a different account.
- Use the broker's official setup instructions for your device. MetaQuotes describes demo account opening on desktop and mobile; the broker controls the available servers.
- Record the demo account number and exact server name supplied by the broker. In MT4, select that server when adding or signing in to the account.
- Check that you are in the intended demo account before placing a practice order. If login fails, verify the account type, server and credentials with the broker.

What the demo can and cannot establish
Use a demo to learn controls and check that your workflow behaves as expected. Record the server, account settings, symbols and dates so you can explain what you tested.
Quotes, spreads, fills, slippage, financing and feature access can differ from a live account. The table attributes simulation statements to their sources. A documented shared price feed is not a guarantee of identical execution.
There is no universal best MT4 demo. Choose the account that answers your specific question, then confirm current terms and eligibility directly with the broker. Read the trading and simulation risks.
