Can I connect my own software to a demo?

An API lets your software request account data or submit orders. A broker API connects to the broker’s supported accounts; a platform API, such as cTrader Open API, connects to eligible accounts on that platform.

The Demo API supported filter includes documented and conditional public demo routes reviewed for the exact entity and platform. Conditional access can require a linked live account, application approval or account permissions. Read API access in the offering’s details before signing up.

MetaTrader scripts and expert advisers run through a trading terminal. Institutional APIs can require a commercial agreement. Neither is included in this public demo API filter. Requires Verification means we have not established support for that offering; it does not mean no API exists.

Documentation reviewed is not a working-connection test. Demo API access does not establish access to every instrument or the behaviour of live orders.

What do the Forex and crypto CFD filters include?

A CFD is a contract on a price movement. A cryptocurrency CFD does not give you ownership of the cryptocurrency. Spot crypto, crypto futures and Forex products that are not CFDs are separate categories.

The market filters show only demo coverage documented for the listed entity and platform. Live-market availability alone is not proof of demo access. Requires Verification means we have not established it; it does not mean the market is unavailable.

Regional and client-type restrictions still matter. The FCA prohibits marketing, distribution and sale of cryptoasset derivatives to UK retail clients. This live-product restriction does not establish which instruments appear in a demo. Read the current FCA rules (new tab).

Which platform should I start with?

To explore a broker’s own interface, use the Broker web & mobile filter. If you already use MetaTrader, choose MT4 or MT5 to find that specific platform. They are different products, and a broker can set different demo conditions for each.

Does “no fixed expiry” mean my account lasts forever?

No. It means the reviewed documentation gives no fixed end date for that offering. Other conditions can change. An inactivity rule is different: an account may close if you stop logging in or using it.

Are the balances real money?

No. They are virtual practice funds. A larger demo balance is not a reward or a reason by itself to choose a broker. Where an amount is missing from our sample, we show “Not recorded.”

Will a demo behave exactly like live trading?

Not necessarily. Execution, slippage, available features and other conditions can differ. Review the broker’s own demo-versus-live documentation; practice results do not establish live trading performance.

What do principal, agent and ECN mean?

Principal: the broker is a party to your live contract. Agent: it acts on your behalf in arranging or executing a transaction. A broker’s role can change by legal entity and product.

Matched principal: the intermediary stands between buyer and seller, with both sides executed simultaneously and no market-risk exposure during execution under the FCA definition. It is a distinct capacity; we only use this label when the relevant disclosure supports it. Read the FCA definition (new tab).

Market making, ECN and STP: these describe different aspects of pricing or order handling. They do not by themselves identify your contractual counterparty or prove execution quality. A principal may hedge its exposure externally. NFA guidance on Forex counterparties and STP (new tab).

Use Execution & demo realism in details or comparisons to inspect each offering’s evidence. Broker-reported means we are attributing a description to its source, not confirming how trades were handled. Requires Verification means the evidence is incomplete. A simulated demo does not establish live fills, liquidity or costs.

Evidence you can inspect.

Each offering links to official broker documentation, with its research date and regional scope. Documented means a detail appears in the sources we reviewed. It does not mean we opened or tested the account.

Balances may be starting amounts, maximums or group-level claims; the qualifier beside each amount explains which. Missing information stays unknown. Conflicting sources stay visible. Loading research coverage. Confirm current terms and eligibility with the broker before signing up.
